Working with us/Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships and Supporting Young People

Here at Bee Jay Scaffolding we are passionate about supporting our young people and investing in our local area. We understand that making the transition from education to the working world isn’t always an easy one and that support and guidance is required to navigate that change.

Based in Rodley, Leeds, we have been a family run scaffolding business for nearly 40 years and have been very fortunate to retain many staff over the years. Many of our employees joined us at the very beginning of their careers and have developed and progressed through the ranks and become experienced and highly skilled trades people. Not everyone remains “on the tools” and we have provided career paths into supervisory and management roles and opportunities for continued development in professional and personal growth.

No two days are the same in this industry and we operate across dozens and dozens of sites across Yorkshire. Projects range from new build development, historic restoration and conservation to large industrial plants and factories. You will have access to support in the office where we run our projects from but also team supervisors who are on site regularly to check in and provide support.

At Bee Jays we believe in supporting one another and working as a team. This is particularly important in scaffolding and you rely on your fellow scaffolder’s knowledge, experience and guidance not only as you learn the trade but while operating on large buildings at height!

” I like that I am more involved now. I’m taught slowly which makes it easier to understand and learn properly. There’s a lot of laughs on the team and I’m looking forward to learning more practical skills and building a career. ”

We believe in giving young people opportunities and allowing them to fulfil their ambitions, to learn a steady trade and with hard work, earn a solid and reliable wage. Scaffolding is a growing industry and a good scaffolder will always be in demand. With the new government comes plans to develop and build more and more houses and further grow our infrastructure of schools, hospitals and prisons which means there will be a lot of work out there!

At Bee Jays we look for an excellent can-do attitude, a willingness to learn and a strong work ethic. We don’t have any minimum academic requirements, but we do want you to bring energy, commitment and a positive attitude. Good time keeping and reliability and a desire to learn a new skill are more important to us than academic qualifications. We understand that we all have different skills and strengths and can bring different qualities to the table.

In return we will provide a structured training programme, starting with the basics, where we teach you the ins and outs of scaffolding while gaining practical experience on the job. We offer mentorship from experienced scaffolders, who can provide guidance and support as you learn the ropes and help you build a successful career in scaffolding. This mentorship gives you a strong foundation of skills and knowledge, setting you up for long-term success in the industry.

We are proud supporters of strong mental health and offer a helping hand through whatever means we can. We are big supporters of Andy’s Man Club and firmly endorse that “It’s okay to talk!” We are a great team here at Bee Jay Scaffolding and know that support, open communication and feeling able to ask for help are the foundations of good mental health and wellbeing.

We have seen so many positive changes in Leeds over the years and as a business are committed to supporting that change contributing positively to our local community. We believe by creating jobs and investing in our young people and helping to give them a purpose we can help push further positive change. We sponsor a local football team and are always keen to support local charitable projects where we can.
