Bee Jay Scaffolding is a proud family-run business with a nearly 40-year legacy in the industry. Our dedicated staff members have built their careers with us, and we take pride in retaining exceptional individuals who bring valuable skills, knowledge, and experience to our team.

Maintaining strong client relationships for three decades, as we have at Bee Jay Scaffolding, is a testament to the quality of our work and the trust our clients place in us. On 25th June 1987, the journey of Bee Jay Scaffolding began, with its first job carried out by Barry Stephenson and John Conway. We know this as we still retain the very first order book used all those years ago!
Just a month later the company took a significant step forward by renting a small office in the office block, which Bee Jay now owns entirely and sits adjacent to the Leeds Liverpool canal in a leafy part of Rodley, Leeds.
By the summer of 1987, Bee Jay Scaffolding started renting wagons to support its operations and expand its capabilities. Throughout the rest of the year, more and more clients were taken on by Barry and John; They began employing several scaffolders, including John Rush, who is still with us today!
On 5th January 1988, Bee Jay Scaffolding Ltd was officially founded, with Barry and John utilizing their houses as collateral to secure finances for the company. A bold step but with their passion and commitment to the business Barry and John were determined to make Bee Jay Scaffolding a success.
During the early years, Barry and John dedicated themselves to the business by often working 7 day weeks and investing every penny in the business.
In 1991, Bee Jay Scaffolding purchased the yard surrounding the offices where the company is still based today. Whilst the company was situated in the heart of Yorkshire, Barry and John were determined to expand their reach and capabilities and undertook scaffolding projects the length and breadth of the country from Perth to Exeter.
Throughout the 90s, Bee Jay Scaffolding continued its growth trajectory by employing more and more people including Keely, our office administrator, who joined aged 16 and is also still here with us today, 29 years later!
In 2006, John Conway’s stake in the company was bought out by Barry Stephenson, marking a new chapter in the company’s ownership structure. Today the business is owned and operated by David Stephenson who is supported by dedicated office support staff and committed Contract Supervisors, who oversee our gangs of scaffolders on sites all over Yorkshire.
As a local family run business, no matter how big we become and how big the projects we take on are, our ethos and commitment to quality remains the same as it did in those early days with Barry and John. Hard work, retaining excellent staff and building fantastic, collaborative, trusting relationships with our clients, large or small, is still at the heart of everything we do.
We believe that maintaining these principles is what sets us apart and has allowed us to continue to grow and thrive in our industry. Our clients know that when they work with us, they are getting a team that is dedicated to delivering the highest quality results, on time and within budget.
